Cap Cana - Wednesday March 22, 2011- Beginning in mid May, Cap Cana Marina, the Caribbean’s newest sportfishing “hot spot,” is set to celebrate its annual Fishing Season for the third consecutive year. Both national and international anglers are expected to participate, representing countries and clubs from the United States, Europe, South America and various parts of the Caribbean. Including, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Aruba, the Bahamas and Virgin Islands.
The Puerto Rico Light Tackle Anglers, based out of the San Juan Yacht Club, will initiate the season with their annual tournament May 25 -28 at Cap Cana, focusing on the White Marlin species on light tackle. The second annual International Cap Cana Billfish shootout, formerly of La Guiara, VZ, will immediately follow from May 31 – June 5, this year with the support of the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism as the title sponsor. This event now known simply as “the shootout,” continues to bring into focus the SE coast of the Dominican Republic as one of the most productive Billfishing destinations in the world, fronting the Cabo Engano or “Hour Glass Bank” in the famed Mona Passage, the body of water representing the convergence of the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, between the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.
