The Pro Am of the “Cap Cana Championship” ends successfully


The Pro Am awards ceremony was held at the Sponsor Club facing Hole 18 with the participation of Cap Cana directors, PGA TOUR´s Champions Tour Directors, professional and amateur players, sponsors, members of the press and others.


Efren García-Estrada, Executive Director of the Cap Cana Championship, congratulated and thanked all the players who participated in the Pro Am.

In the first day of the Pro Am the winners were the Spaniard Víctor García, a professional player paired with amateurs, Manuel de los Santos the Dominican golfer who lives in France, Carlos Ortiz and Verónica Mengod, for a total score of 55 strokes.  The second place winner was the professional player Tom Kite paired with amateurs Don Sofferm, Hal Leeds, Glenn Singer and Brett Overman, for a total score of 56 strokes and in third place the team comprised of professional player Bruce Fleisher paired with amateurs Jaime Esteva, Teddy de La Lara, José Pineda and Enrique Felius, also for a total score of 56 strokes.

Likewise, on the second day the winning team was headed by professional player John Cook paired with amateurs Don Soffer, Hal Leeds, Glen Singer and Brett Overman who participated both days, for a total score of 53 strokes.  The second place winner was the professional player Russ Cochran paired with amateurs Carlos Ortíz, Verónica Mengod, Benito Abad and Antonio Ramis for a total score of 55 strokes.  The third place winner was the professional player Joey Sindelar paired with amateurs Jim Mercer, Chris Pollack, Robert Cusenza and Larry Walker for a total score of 56 strokes.  

The Pro Am ended successfully and what will be a great competition kicks off with 78 players from different countries many of which are considered to be the best in the world. The Championship shall consist of 54 holes stroke play with a total purse of US $1,600,000.

The international Golf Channel will broadcast the “Cap Cana Championship” and allow the Dominican Republic to become the preferred golf destination of the Caribbean.
