The PGA TOUR's Champions Tour "The Cap Cana Championship" is a Grand Success

From last March 31 through to April 6, the PGA TOUR's Champions Tour "The Cap Cana Championship" held in the Jack Nicklaus signature Punta Espada golf course, created a new chapter in the history of Dominican golf when 78 international professional players participated in the inaugural Cap Cana Championship; one of most important and richest events on the PGA Champions Tour calendar.   

The awards ceremony was held by Ricardo Hazoury, President of the board for Cap Cana; Rick George, President of the PGA TOUR's Champions Tour, Efren Garcia, Director of the Cap Cana Championship; Felix Jimenez, Tourism Minister in the Dominican Republic; Felipe Jay Payano, Sports Minister; and Mr. Ramon Baez Romano, outstanding Dominican golfer honoured in the event.  

The renowned golfer from Oregon, United States, Mark Wiebe, was crowned winner in a prolific ceremony on the 18th green of the Punta Espada Golf Course, winning with a game that could be only defined as masterful, comprising consistent driving and brilliant stroke play.  

Amid the overwhelming applause from the attending gallery, Ricardo Hazoury formally delivered the winner’s cheque of US$300.000 to the champion, who was extremely thankful to everyone at Cap Cana.   

A week filled with social, sporting, and cultural activities  

During the week of "The Cap Cana Championship", a series of sporting, social, and cultural events were held for the benefit of attending players, property owners, and guests. Among them included a spectacular Pro-Am tournament, in addition to the inaugural Boat Show being celebrated in the Cap Cana Marina, where only the most recognized international brands of yachts were on display.  

Cultural activities included the renowned "Dominican Moves" exhibition of Mikhail Baryshnikov in the "Founders Gallery" of the Cap Cana Marina.  

Designer Arcadio Diaz, presented his most recent collection "Islands and Seas", mainly comprised of men’s and women’s chacabanas, detailing bright colors and drawing to the Caribbean’s unique influence on the latest trends in fashion.   

For the smaller ones, family shows with Shannon Tanner were held in the Marina’s Grand Canal. The famous North American artist put on an array of special activities for the children, who were delighted with music and games.

The week of social activities for “The Cap Cana Championship” closed with the golden celebration in the Caleton Beach Club; the perfect place for the private party as Cap Cana hosted players, relatives, and guests to dance to famed Dominican artist Johnny Ventura.  

More than three thousand people enjoyed the special night in an ultimate atmosphere where palm and coconut trees swayed in the white sand and smooth breeze of the Caribbean Sea, home of the purest Caribbean life style.  

The great celebration culminated a spectacular week of special activities to mark the successful inauguration of “The Cap Cana Championship".
